Shameless Borrowing

Shameless Borrowing

So in the process of looking at Skorne, I assembled a fair number of Minions models to play in the Disciples of Agony theme. And I’ve had even more that have run with my Legion and Trollbloods in the past. And I realized that while the Skorne CID might be underwhelming me (mostly–the change to the Bronzeback is pretty sweet), I had some core components of some Minons lists ready to roll. So I nabbed a few Warlocks (and unpacked a couple old ones that I had stashed away), and thought I’d try my hand at some games with them.

Because this fits within my aim to have ample reps of lists before the ATC in January, that also meant that I don’t have quite the time to tinker with lists. So it’s shameless borrowing time! I did a pretty deep dive into what the effective lists are for Minions out there, and there’s surprising diversity that seems to be working. Going to give some of them a try (roughly).

On the painting side, I’m doing some shameless borrowing as well. This painting guide from Bell of Lost Souls is what I followed roughly for the look of my models. I tend to like Citadel paints for most colors, so I used some color matches. But I’m still pleased with the basic formula of two-tone sandy brown-to-yellow scales, with red cord accents and neutral cloth colors. I did up a Gator first to see how it worked. I’m still experimenting with the Croak solo and the Bog Trog–wanted to get all my colors for the three major types of model in Blindwater lists sorted out.

Minions Gatorman Husk

Despite painting first toward the Blindwater, my first games came with some Farrow. I had more Farrow than anything else from the Skorne DoA project, so it was the first spot that I had an assembled list: Midas with infantry in the Farrow theme. The games are not much to look at because my force is almost completely unpainted (just one Splatter Boar and a Gobber Chef, and the Splatter Boar colors may or may not be what I settle on for the force). But it’s a start to trying them out.

Minions Midas versus Cryx Venethrax

My first game was Midas into Venethrax Black Industries played by Justin. Not only was I on the learning curve with a new warlock, it was a warlock with some limitations–which Venethrax exploited pretty well. Definitely a learning game, but a healthy and solid loss for me.

Minions Midas vs Khador Vlad1

Second game with Midas went better. Took him into Larry IV’s Vlad1 Winterguard list. Even scattering the Splatter Boar blasts around still took out plenty of Winterguard with corrosion. I found that this list can indeed hit hard and shoot well, but it cannot stand up to firepower particularly well either. Definitely a list to bring into a mostly-melee force.

So that’s a start to Minions at least. I’m definitely hoping to make progress on the painting side, and have a full slate of Gators to work on. This weekend I should get my first games with Blindwater forces in, which will be a welcome start (as I think my interest is hovering more there than with Midas).
